Packway Wood is part of a special area of Ancient Woodland set in a peaceful and quiet rural location surrounded by open farm land and located to the south of the historic village of Flixton.

The woodland is believed to have historic and medieval associations with a former Augustine Abbey at Flixton Priory.

This is a special wood and should be viewed to appreciate its true beauty, being level with good access and easy to walk through.

Principally mixed broadleaf with evidence of old coppice. The dominant species being oak, hazel and ash. There is also a varied ground flora including the rare spiked wood sedge (Carex strigosa).

Red, Roe and Muntjack deer are numerous along with a wide variety of plant life including orchids bluebells wild garlic toadstools.

Because this is a special woodland it is protected as a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

From the centre of the village of Flixton (B1062 Homersfield-Bungay Road) take the road sign-posted South Elmham Villages. Proceed through the village and up the hill past the "Woodlands for Sale" sign on your left hand side. Follow the road for a short distance until you reach Packway Cottage on your left. Turn left along the track just after the cottage. Packway Wood is on your left hand side after about five hundred yards.
